DIY Washer Repair Tips to Prevent a Service Call

While most of us tend to feel immediately powerless when faced with broken appliance repair Scottsdale, it’s interesting to note that most of the problems we encounter with our appliances are so simple that even the most mechanically challenged people can fix them. Today, we’re going to share with you a few simple tips to help you fix your washer without calling the repairman.

Washer Won’t Run

Check the plug to ensure that it hasn’t been bumped off its place by mistake, as this is one of the leading causes for ‘broken’ appliance repair in Scottsdale AZ. If the washer still won’t work after you’ve plugged it in, examine the breaker box to see if one of the circuits have tripped and switch it back up; or if any of the fuses has blown, replace it with a new one to fix the problem. Also, clean the switches just to be sure. Sometimes they get broken or stop responding due to gunk that’s stuck inside them.

Water Not Coming In

If your washer is not working because the water won’t come in, check to see if both the hot and cold water valves are open. If the washer still won’t work after you’ve opened them, check the filter screen to see if there’s any gunk stuck in there that may be obstructing the water flow. Also make sure to switch the machine off, place a small bucket under the hoses and unscrew them from the machine before you check for the blockage to be on the safe side.

Loud Noises

If your washer starts making loud noises, there might be a problem with the amount of laundry you’ve loaded into it. Make sure that laundry is distributed evenly inside the machine when you load the clothes in, and load just the right amount of clothing, as too little or too much may cause your machine to make loud noises.

You should also check if there are any hard objects in the machine that are causing it to make the weird noise, like a child’s toy, a coin or even a button that has made its way into the machine. If the noise is accompanied by vibrations then a service call may be required to fix the problem.

Washer Leaks

Seeing a puddle of water on the floor surrounding your washer can cause anyone’s heart to sink. The first thing you should do is to check the water valves for any dampness and tighten them if there is. If there’s tearing on the hoses, replace them with new ones immediately, and if the puddle is sudsy and you’re using a front loader, then you might have to replace your detergent with a high-efficiency detergent, which is more suited to the lower water levels of a front loader.

Clothes Still Wet After Final Spin Cycle

This may be caused by one of the hoses getting twisted or crumpled. It could also mean that the water pump is blocked by something like lint or a small item that’s not supposed to be there. If that’s the case, clean it with an aquarium tube cleaning brush which can be purchased from your local hardware or pet store.

Unable to Identify the Problem

If your machine is not working after checking all the above problems and applying the solutions, then try and read the manual to see if you can find some useful information or visit online repair sites which are a great resource to consult in fixing any of your Scottsdale appliance repair. That said, there is no shame in calling a repairman if none of these solutions work for you.
